Is there any doubt that what Obama has had to confront on
his way to this nomination is vile contempt – including ironically –
contempt from members of his own party. The response to Rev. Wright
is far less an indictment of Barak Obama than it is of the people
who insist on remaining deeply offended and angry at minister's
words, insist on continuing to be angry at the parsed out syllables
and phrases. Of course, they have the right to be as offended as
they want, and wear it in their sleeves ad nauseam – but it takes on
a different aid, a different smell, when we look at their silence on
other minister attacks on America and American institutions. And it
is not the fact that they are offended, but that these same people
remained quiet when WHITE ministers blamed the US for 9—11. A White
Minister who was sought out by McCain for an endorsement has called
the Catholic Church the great whore. As these white leaders speak
out with their own outrageous claims, the American people sit on
their hands, the radio talk shows stay silent, and umbrage does not
visit.
But a BLACK minister has the audacity to insist that this
nation is wrong, and should be held accountable, and is damned -
well all hell breaks loose.
My guess is its about racism. Maybe something different –
but I don't think so.
