That a +1 or tournament would leave the regular season meaningless.
The current system basically says that a loss in September is less
meaningful than a loss in November...Settle it on the field. Take
into consideration an undefeated Auburn a couple years ago (sure
they scheduled a D1-AA school but ran the table in the "best
football conference", SEC), an undefeated Utah and Boise a couple
years ago, that all at least deserved their shot, not to mention the
split NC during the BCS era with LSU and USC....The current system
is flawed, the one time it "worked" they pitted two undefeated teams
together.....good job.....
My solution would be a 24 team, 5 or 6 week(depending on if you want
to give an off week before the championship game) tournament. Where
you give the 8 teams who normally would have qualified for the BCS a
bye in the first round (I've done the bracket, it works)....6 weeks
would plenty of time, and its still less than the hundreds of days
OSU had off before their championship game debocles.....
