recruit guys to Boulder so he could take them to his next gig? When
Patton was putting together that last class, his main goal was to
plug some holes left by 8 departing seniors."
Patton new he wasn't likely going to return to CU after his final
contract year, and perhaps the choice of his 8 players was with his
next gig in mind. If they were Big 12 caliber, there would have
been fewer transfers, and if they were more Northern Illinois
caliber or better, it would be easier to draw them to his next job.
And Patton knew he wasn't going to get anything better than Northern
Illinois.
An evil masterplan? Let's see, he gets some decent players for NIU
and he helps create big holes to fill for the next CU coach. A
double incentive for the evil genius. . .
I don't really believe that but when you hear he was trying to get
current CU players to come with him to NIU, who knows. Coaches are
not allowed to contact players already on a team, so if he did any
of this before they quit or were cut, then he's could be in NCAA
trouble.
